The Keynote
The Shoot

Payroll throws a launch event for the wait itself. The hold music is the flagship feature, demoed live to an arena of hourly workers, until she stands up, takes the lectern, and discontinues the product line. This page is the whole production, readable by anyone on the crew: what the camera captures on the day, what the stage does in camera, what AI builds around her, and what post finishes. The film below is the previs. Every frame of it was made the way the finished spot will be.

01 · The Film

They launched the wait.
She cancelled it on stage.

A keynote, played straight: the company on stage is Payroll itself, and the hold loop is its proudest feature, presented over an arena PA to the workers who live inside it. The script's record scratch happens live on stage: a wrong input floods the big screen, the demo dies mid-phrase, and the only person who stands up walks to the lectern and ends the product line. Every phone in the bowl flips yellow at once.

Built toObey the client's art direction (Silicon Valley modern, never old money), match the script's comedy, and give the sonic asset an arena: the loop is presented as a product and dies in front of ten thousand people. Every beat stages on a dark-lit cyc in one day.
02 · The Method

How one room becomes an arena

Three rules run the whole day. Everyone on crew should know them; they decide every on-set question.

Her light is the room's light

Every La La performance is captured live, and her face is keyed by the scene's own sources: the screen spill, the house pool, the podium task light. No beauty key, no glam finish, matte natural makeup. That is what makes her read photographed IN the world instead of pasted onto it.

The stage takes the color

The color events are real lighting moves, in camera: the screen-flood cyan of the wrong input, the awkward half-house after the rip, and the yellow tide when the answer lands, performed as a floor-up cyc flood plus practical phone props. What the previs shows is what the board op performs.

AI carries the crowd

The arena and its ten thousand workers are generated around her plates from the frames on this page. On the day the bowl is three rented seat rows and a black void. Identity rides one locked anchor in every frame of her; the crowd is cast in prompt, never on payroll.

04 · The Shot List

Fourteen boards, three segments

Every board is a true frame from the previs film, annotated as a direction board: composition thirds, motion and camera arrows, and tags marking what is captured live against what is generated. Chips carry each shot's deal and its lens, height and move.

Cut grammar the editor should hold: cuts land on the presenter's phrasing until the rip, then on hers. The film's single camera move is shot 12's push. Yellow exists nowhere in the film until shot 13, and then it owns everything.

The new law, then the four setups

Law one · her light is the room's

Her face is keyed by whatever the scene itself throws: corridor wall-wash, screen spill, the flat half-house, the podium task light. Matte natural makeup, real texture, honest shadow. No beauty key ever rides her; that is what killed take one.

Law two · color is a performance

The board op performs the film's grade live: the screen-flood cyan of the wrong input, everything falling to awkward half-house after the rip, and the yellow tide rising floor-up through the finale while six practical phones flip on cue.
